Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

What is Alternative Dispute Resolution?

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) offers all consumers the opportunity to seek assistance from official entities to help resolve or guide them in any disputes before resorting to legal proceedings in court.

Typically, the procedure is as follows:

  • The customer requests the intervention of an impartial third party to act as a mediator between themselves and the trader subject to their complaint.
  • The mediator may suggest a solution, impose a solution on both parties, or facilitate discussions between the parties to reach a mutually agreeable resolution.

You may be familiar with Alternative Dispute Resolution under different terms, such as mediation, conciliation, arbitration, or consumer dispute resolution committee.

ADR is generally less expensive, less formal, and quicker than court proceedings.
